Philipp Carlsson-Szlezak is a Managing Director and Partner at Boston Consulting Group and the firm’s Global Chief Economist. He is based in New York. Philipp was previously Chief Economist at Sanford Bernstein where he covered the economy and markets for institutional investors across the global asset management industry. Earlier in his career, he spent more than ten years advising financial institutions and governments at BCG, the OECD, and McKinsey & Company. He has a Bachelor’s degree from LSE and a PhD from the University of Oxford. He is a regular contributor to Harvard Business Review, World Economic Forum Agenda, Fortune, and other business publications.

Julia Coronado | MacroPolicy Perspectives

Julia Coronado is founder of the economic research firm MacroPolicy Perspectives and a Clinical Associate Professor at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. Julia received her B.A. in Economics from University of Illinois Urbana and her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. After receiving her Ph.D., Julia worked as a staff economist at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington D.C. for eight years. Julia has published a number of scholarly articles on issues related to pension finances and market valuations, social security, retirement saving adequacy and behavior, the frontier of private and public data collection, digital currency and monetary policy. Julia has represented the US at OECD meetings on financial market issues and has testified before the US Congress on Social Security reform and Central Bank Digital Currencies. She is a member of the Economic Advisory Panel of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Economic Studies Council at the Brookings Institution and is currently the Vice President of the National Association of Business Economists. Julia is also on the Board of Directors of Robert Half International and Dynex Capital and serves on the Advisory Boards of the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Pension Research Council at the Wharton School and the Cleveland Fed’s Center for Inflation Research. She has previously served on the New York Fed’s Treasury Market Practices Group, the Board of the National Association of Business Economists and been President of the New York Association of Business Economists. Julia is a regular commentator in financial media, including CNBC, Bloomberg, Marketplace, and the Wall Street Journal.

seth carpenter | morgan stanley

Seth Carpenter is a Managing Director and Chief Global Economist at Morgan Stanley. Previously, he was Chief US Economist for UBS and Head of US Research for Rokos Capital. Prior to entering the private sector, Seth had an almost two-decade career in the public sector. During his 15 years at the Federal Reserve, he rose to the position of Deputy Director of the Division of Monetary Affairs, working on monetary policy strategy and implementation. At the US Treasury, he was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Macroeconomic Analysis and then was nominated by President Obama to be Assistant Secretary for Financial Markets. Seth earned his PhD in Economics from Princeton University.

jason thomas | The Carlyle group

Jason Thomas is a Managing Director and Director of Research at The Carlyle Group, focusing on economic and statistical analysis of the Carlyle portfolio data, asset prices, and broader trends in the global economy. Mr. Thomas is based in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Thomas serves as the economic adviser to the firm’s corporate private equity, real estate and credit investment committees. Mr. Thomas’ research helps to identify new investment opportunities, advance strategic initiatives and corporate development, and support Carlyle investors.

Previous to joining Carlyle, Mr. Thomas was Vice President, Research at the Private Equity Council. Prior to that, he served on the White House staff as Special Assistant to the President and Director for Policy Development at the National Economic Council. In this capacity, Mr. Thomas served as the primary adviser to the President for public finance.

Mr. Thomas received a B.A. from Claremont McKenna College and an M.S. and Ph.D. in finance from George Washington University where he studied as a Bank of America Foundation, Leo and Lillian Goodwin Foundation, and School of Business Fellow.

Mr. Thomas has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a financial risk manager (FRM) certified by the Global Association of Risk Professionals.

Krishna Guha is Vice-Chairman of Evercore ISI and heads the Global Policy and Central Bank Strategy team based in Washington DC. Evercore ISI’s Policy team is ranked #1 and Krishna is ranked #1 in individual on the Institutional Investor’s All‐Star Team for Washington research which is based on a survey of global asset managers.

Prior to joining the firm, Krishna was Executive Vice-President, Member of the Management Committee and Head of the Communications Group at the New York Fed from 2010 to 2013. In this capacity he led the New York Fed’s external relations, acted as a senior advisor to President William C Dudley on monetary policy strategy and policy communication, and served as a member of the New York Fed’s Executive Committee on Financial Stability and Regulatory Policy. Krishna also chaired the New York Fed’s policy speech-writing process, co-chaired its housing policy working group and managed a department of about 60 officials. As a Member of the Management Committee, he shared responsibility for charting the overall strategy of the New York Fed, developing its capabilities and evaluating and managing risks faced by the institution.

Before joining the New York Fed, Krishna was a senior writer on global economics and economic policy at the Financial Times, where he held a series of senior positions including US Economics Editor, Lex columnist and Editorial Leader Writer (member of the Editorial Board). He was awarded the Best in Business award by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers and the Excellence in Financial Journalism award by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants for his work on the financial crisis.

Krishna is a Member of the Economic Club of New York, NABE, the National Association for Business Economics and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Association, a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Advisory Council, a member of the EU-Japan Forum and a fellow at Japan’s Keizai Koho Center and Nihon Shinbun Kyokai. He has lived and worked in the US, Europe and Asia and in 1993 took part in a joint Anglo-Chinese expedition to cross the Taklamakan Desert in Xinjiang Province, China.

Krishna was educated at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University, and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, where he was a Fulbright Scholar and won the C.V. Starr award.
