Peter Lynch | Vice Chairman of Fidelity Management & Research Company* | President of the Lynch Foundation | Keynote Fireside Chat

Peter Lynch is President of the Lynch Foundation and Vice Chairman of Fidelity Management & Research Company.  He managed the Magellan Fund at Fidelity for 13 years. Magellan became the largest equity fund in the world in 1983 and continued to outperform all other funds for the next seven years. During his tenure, an investment of $1,000 in the fund starting in 1977 was worth over $28,000 by the time he stepped down in 1990 and thereby greatly helped several million American families.

Prior to joining Fidelity, Mr. Lynch served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, received his Bachelor of Science from Boston College in 1965, and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1968.  In 1988, with his late wife Carolyn, they founded The Lynch Foundation. The Lynch Foundation and Lynch family have donated over $180 million in grants to non- profit organizations primarily in Greater Boston.

Mr. Lynch has been the recipient of several national and local civic awards including the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children Family Award, the United Way Bay Leadership Award, and the Joseph Wharton Award for Lifetime Achievement. In 1991, he was elected as a fellow with the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and in 2009 was inducted into the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Academy of Distinguished Bostonians. He has also received honorary degrees from fifteen various colleges and universities.  For thirty years, Mr. Lynch has served as chairman of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund—over twice as long as he was manager for the Magellan fund. He has raised over $175 million in partial scholarships for children of all faiths and ethnicities living in Greater Boston’s inner city and attending Catholic schools.

Mr. Lynch is the bestselling author of One Up on Wall Street and Beating the Street, and co-author of Learn to Earn. All profits and royalties from his books have and will be donated to charity.
